Dear Ulrike, could you tell us your personal story? How long have you been trying to have a child?

My name is Ulrike, and I’d like to share my story with you here. I’ve never been one of those women with a super-regular cycle. Even with our first child, the pregnancy was more of a “surprise.” But somehow it just worked out, and we had no doubt that it wouldn’t work again.

So what was it really like during your second pregnancy?

When our first daughter turned two, we began to long for another child. For nearly six months, nothing happened at all. That was very discouraging. In addition to my very irregular cycle, I had been diagnosed with hypothyroidism (Hashimoto’s) during my first pregnancy, which made trying to conceive even more difficult due to constant hormonal fluctuations. Despite this, I did get pregnant, but I lost the baby before the 12th week of pregnancy. When this happened again a good three months later, despair set in. Suddenly, the statistics were staring me in the face… over 35 years old, two consecutive miscarriages… Another six months passed, accompanied by endlessly long cycles with constant spotting. Hope every month—in vain! Countless negative pregnancy tests later, I knew we couldn’t just keep waiting to see if it would work out again someday. The fear grew bigger and bigger that we would never have a second child.

Have you tried anything else besides the OvulaRing?

At first, I tried using over-the-counter ovulation tests to figure out when I was ovulating. To no avail! I didn’t have the slightest idea when I was ovulating—or even if I was ovulating at all.

As described, the app was very easy to use, and all the data was recorded without any issues. I loved that I could start tracking right away. My first full cycle was very long at 45 days. Ovulation didn’t occur until day 34. While I was glad that ovulation had occurred, I discussed with my gynecologist options for shortening my cycles or inducing ovulation.

How long did it take for you to get pregnant using OvulaRing?

As early as my second cycle, I took the medication clomiphene [Note from the OvulaRing team: Clomiphene is a medication used to induce ovulation] and was able to track its effects very clearly based on my temperature readings. However, the artificial induction of ovulation also altered my temperature curve, so OvulaRing had to re-learn my cycle. In this cycle, my fertile days were shown to me retrospectively.
