Interview Q&A
-
Dear Nathalie, could you please tell us your personal story? How long have you been trying to have a child?
-
My name is Nathalie. I’m 38 years old and the mom of Elias, who was born in August 2021. Despite being in a happy, long-term relationship, I hadn’t previously wanted children and had focused more on my career. But when I suddenly felt a strong desire to have a child in November 2020, I couldn’t wait to get started. I was lucky and got pregnant right away. I had a wonderful pregnancy and birth. I’m really enjoying being a mom—I’ve fully embraced this new world and don’t miss anything from my “old” life.
It was clear to me from the very beginning that I didn’t want an only child; instead, I wanted to give my baby the experience of having a sibling. However, when my period still hadn’t returned nine months after giving birth in May 2022, I started to get a little nervous. I was still breastfeeding part-time, especially at night, and I didn’t really want to give that up. Elias still needed it. I read a lot about the odds of getting pregnant after age 35. I realized that I had been very lucky the first time around and was simply unsure whether we’d be so lucky again. -
Have you tried anything else besides the OvulaRing?
-
I researched the various ways to “give things a little nudge”—menstrual teas, homeopathic remedies, osteopathy, yoga, and so on. I then decided to make an appointment with a naturopath who specializes in women’s health. At the same time, I had a complete blood count done to see if I was getting enough nutrients and so on. And I was!
-
How did you come across OvulaRing?
-
The appointment with the naturopath was very informative: in addition to various homeopathic globules and powders, she recommended OvulaRing to me. That was at the end of June 2022. And sure enough, two weeks after the appointment, I got my period again for the first time. I firmly believe that homeopathy helped me a lot here. I ordered OvulaRing right away! Thanks to the fast delivery, I was able to start during my first cycle and inserted the ring.
-
What do you think of using OvulaRing?
-
I got the hang of using it right away and checked the data almost every day out of curiosity. It’s really easy and totally hassle-free to insert the ring. It’s not painful or noticeable when you’re wearing it, either. It’s just perfect for me!
-
OvulaRing is different from the usual methods for optimizing conception: How is it different from traditional methods? What do you like about it?
-
OvulaRing really takes the pressure off, because you don’t have to constantly worry about whether you’re on the right ovulation day in your daily life.
-
So what happened next in your journey to have a child?
-
When I got my period again on August 9 after a 33-day cycle, I was shocked because I hadn’t ovulated. Somehow, I had started hoping that I would become a mom again in June 2023. A 22-month gap between the two children seemed perfect to me. That meant I had to get pregnant again in September. I continued taking my supplements and had sex whenever I felt like it. However, it was way too early, since my cycle had lengthened to 37 days, with ovulation on the 26th day of the cycle. I, on the other hand, thought my cycle length would quickly return to 30 days, just like before the pregnancy.
-
How did OvulaRing help you get pregnant?
-
I was really looking forward to Cycle 3 and the forecasts [Note from the OvulaRing team: After recording 3 OvulaRing cycles with ovulation, the OvulaRing app can usually provide a prediction for ovulation and fertile days in the following cycle.] In the meantime, I had actually stopped breastfeeding, which worked out very well for both Elias and me. Because of my long previous cycle, the app initially assumed I would have a similar cycle. I started doing fertility yoga and took my pills and teas very diligently. Since I continued to track my cycle daily, I noticed that the app suddenly “changed its mind” and showed me as “very fertile” on cycle day 17. We had sex, but only once because of a vacation I had planned. After that, I had a COVID-19 infection—as I now know—accompanied by a fever. In hindsight, the app showed me different, later fertile days as a result. I wrote to OvulaRing’s customer support and promptly received a very nice response from the team. The service is really great!
-
When did you find out you were pregnant?
-
At the same time, my cycle kept getting longer and longer, and after 34 days, I finally took the plunge and took a pregnancy test. POSITIVE!!!! I couldn’t believe it. That means my due date is at the end of June 2023. I’m over the moon and so grateful to OvulaRing! Without it, it definitely would have taken me many more months to get pregnant.
-
Will you continue to use OvulaRing?
-
I know that our family will be complete with two children. So I will definitely continue to use the remaining months of my subscription. I don’t know yet whether I’ll continue using OvulaRing for natural birth control after that.
-
Would you recommend OvulaRing, and if so, why?
-
I’ll definitely recommend OvulaRing to my friends when we talk about wanting to have children—simply because it works.
