Our latest product generation allows you to easily transfer your collected cycle data to the OvulaRing app via Bluetooth. The OvulaRing sensor is first removed from the body as usual. The intelligent sensor recognizes by temperature and ambient light that it is no longer in the body and is now able to establish a Blutooth communication with the associated app. Once the app and sensor are connected, the data can now be easily synchronized. After that, OvulaRing is worn vaginally again as usual and you can view all the information about your cycles in the app and get Insights about your cycle health.
Some of you might be wondering if the Bluetooth connection couldn’t be established right out of the body? Today we’ll explain why we don’t want radio waves to be sent out of the body, and why that’s why OvulaRing is still taken out of the body to read the data.
Facts about Bluetooth

Bluetooth devices transmit radio waves in a predefined and fixed frequency range between 2.402 and 2.480 GHz, allowing wireless connection over short distances, e.g. from headphones to smartphone. The first real stable Bluetooth version came onto the market in 2001. The name “Bluetooth” is based on the Danish king Harald “Blauzahn” Gormsson, who largely unified his kingdom in the 10th century.
The frequency at which Bluetooth transmits radio waves is ideal for connecting devices, even from different manufacturers, with little energy. However, radio waves at this fixed frequency would not pass well through the body. On the contrary, most of the transmission waves would simply be absorbed by the body and thus remain in the body!
It is also a fact that the more energy is needed, the greater would be the exposure of the body to the radio waves. Therefore, if the option of transmitting data from the body were ever desired in the future, another technology and radio link would first have to be developed to avoid absorption of transmission waves into the body when transmitting data!

According to the current state of knowledge, the Federal Office for Radiation Protection has determined that no adverse health effects are to be expected from radiofrequency fields (such as those caused by mobile communications) if the limits are observed. However, the long-term effects of everyday exposure to mobile phone radiation, wi-fi, etc. and their impact on the body are not yet known and are still being studied. The new regulation in the Radiation Protection Act is intended to protect embryos from unnecessary radiation exposure. According to the medical journal, the current ban covers Doppler, duplex, 3D or 4D procedures, also known as “baby television” or “baby viewing,” which are offered in gynecologists’ offices as self-pay services (IGeL). Again, the top priority is to reduce radiation exposure and protect life in the womb.
How does the OvulaRing Bluetooth sensor technology work?
The OvulaRing sensor works with the Low Energy (LE) radio standard, which makes Bluetooth connections possible even with low transmission power and power consumption. Smartphones and PCs usually have both a normal Bluetooth interface and Bluetooth Low Energy support. Bluetooth LE technology can be found, for example, in fitness trackers or even toys. The main advantage is that this standard requires very little transmission power and establishes a very low-power Bluetooth connection.The OvulaRing Bluetooth Sensor cannot switch to communication mode and send radio waves in your body, as it is equipped with a light and temperature sensor. Only when it detects the brightness and temperature of the environment after removal from the body, it can switch to communication mode to transmit the recorded cycle data to the app. You activate communication mode by briefly darkening the sensor with your hand and then exposing it to ambient light again. You can tell that it is active by the green flashing of the sensor.

OvulaRing is worn vaginally and automatically records your temperature data around the clock. For this purpose, the ring and sensor are located in the immediate vicinity of the place where new life can be created – close to the eggs and the uterus. Therefore, care was taken during development to ensure that no radio waves would interfere with or affect the eggs. There is no certainty as to whether and to what extent radio waves near the internal female reproductive organs affect cycle events. As there are no studies on this subject, possible long-term effects of radio waves from the body on the mother or baby cannot be assessed and are not known according to current knowledge.
